Power forward P.J. Tucker had a strange season last year.
Tucker played three years with the Philadelphia 76ers before being traded to the Los Angeles Clippers in a package that included superstar James Harden. However, after Tucker saw a decrease in playing time, he publicly requested a trade. Tucker finished the year with a total of only 28 games and 420 minutes played for the Clippers.
Tucker and the Los Angeles Clippers are now working on finding a new destination for the power forward. With this news now out, there’s a possibility that his former team, the Miami Heat, could look into re-acquiring Tucker for the upcoming campaign.
Tucker spent the 2021-22 season playing in a Heat uniform. While playing for them, he averaged 7.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per night. He was even a huge factor in the playoffs as he logged 7.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists a game.
Tucker can bring many advantages to Miami
The main factor that could influence the Heat to go after Tucker is his defense and tenacity. Throughout his 13-year career, Tucker established himself as a great defender for his size and position. Although he hasn’t won any defensive-related awards or made any All-Defensive teams, he does a superior job at contesting shots. Since the beginning of the 2016-17 season, he has averaged 6.0 contested shots a game.
Another reason Tucker could be beneficial to the Heat is because of his experience.
Though Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo are the leaders of the team, the majority of the roster is fairly young. Similar to 2022, Tucker can take on a guidance role for players such as Nikola Jovic and Jaime Jaquez Jr. Considering Tucker has played with the Heat in the past, he is also familiar with Pat Riley, Erik Spoelstra, and the system they operate with.
Despite the fact that Tucker is 38 years old, he could still be a huge addition to the Heat, especially embracing Heat Culture in the locker room.
