A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Anthony Edwards spoke with Michael Jordan.
Edwards sought advice on how to attack double teams— a challenge that had been frustrating him recently. Since then, Edwards has been nothing short of electric.
Over his last 11 games, Edwards is averaging 32.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game, with a true shooting percentage of 61.2%. During that stretch, the Minnesota Timberwolves are 7-4.
Edwards has been even more impressive in his last three games.
134 Points in 3 Games
Last week Wednesday, Anthony Edwards scored 49 points against the Chicago Bulls, shooting 46% from the field and 42% from beyond the arc. He also grabbed nine rebounds and was exceptional at the free-throw line, making 17 of 18 attempts in the win.
Getting to the free-throw line has been a staple for Edwards over this inspired two-game stretch.
On Thursday against the Houston Rockets, Edwards went 11-for-11 from the free-throw line in the first quarter, scoring 18 points. The game was chippy and physical throughout. Dillon Brooks and Edwards got into a bit of an altercation, as did Naz Reid and Jock Landale.
It was a back-and-forth battle all night until the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Edwards was dominant, showcasing his athleticism, shooting ability, and fierce competitive spirit. He finished the game with 41 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and a series of acrobatic, electrifying plays.
Edwards’ decisiveness and determination to attack the basket have yielded excellent results. He’s getting to the line more often and creating easy scoring opportunities for his teammates. His eagerness to drive also opens up opportunities for himself. Defenders are forced to respect Edwards’ ability to blow by them and finish at the rim, which, in turn, gives him more space to shoot three-pointers. When Edwards is playing an inside-out game, he’s nearly unstoppable.
After being inactive for Saturday’s game, Ant returned to the lineup Monday night and unleashed his third straight 40+ point performance — the first time in Timberwolves history — dropping 44 points (13/28 FG, 8/15 3PT, 10/13 FT).
The Sky is the Limit for Anthony Edwards
The Timberwolves are seventh in the Western Conference, just a stone’s throw away from the fourth spot and home-court advantage in the first round. Despite injuries to Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo, the Timberwolves have found ways to win, which bodes well for when those key pieces return.
If the Timberwolves can get healthy and continue to gel, and if Anthony Edwards keeps aggressively attacking the basket, getting to the free-throw line regularly, and making plays for his teammates, there’s no telling how far this team can go.
With Anthony Edwards, the sky is the limit.
