Veteran forward Anthony Tolliver has reportedly signed a one-year deal worth $3.3 million to return to the Detroit Pistons after playing in Sacramento last season. Tolliver played 124 games for Detroit in between 2014 and 2016. The Pistons signed Tolliver to be the veteran presence on the team this year as he is now the only player on the roster who is above the age of thirty. Tolliver has played for the team before and is familiar with Head Coach Stan Van Gundy, so he should be able to come in and acclimatize rather quickly.
The Pistons recently traded Marcus Morris to the Celtics for Avery Bradley and a second round pick, as the Celtics were desperate to get rid of a contract so that they could sign Gordon Hayward to a max deal. They are hoping Bradley comes in and plays to the level he played last year in Boston. But, with the Pistons moving Morris, this leaves a lack of versatility in the front court for the Pistons and by signing Tolliver they are hoping that will be a quick fix. Tolliver will be the guy to come off the bench and guard the bigger, quicker front court players as a great complement to teammates Tobias Harris and Jon Leuer.
As a role player for the majority of his career, Tolliver averages 6.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and one assist per game while shooting 41.4% from the field, and 36.2% from deep.
