Brandon Knight Suffers Torn ACL

Things continue to get worse for Brandon Knight.

In a statement from Head Team Physician Dr. Tom Carter, the Suns guard “suffered a torn left ACL last week and will undergo surgery”. The injury will likely force Knight to miss the entire 2017-18 season.

Since being traded to Phoenix from Milwaukee at the 2015 trade deadline, Knight’s career has slowly declined. The 25-year-old averaged 11 points and 2.4 assists over a career-low 21.1 minutes per game last season. After the Suns fell  out of the playoff race, Suns’ head coach Earl Watson opted to give young guns Tyler Ulis and Devin Booker the bulk of the minutes in the backcourt, leaving Knight with little to play for.

With the Suns clearly headed in a different direction with Ulis and Booker leading the charge, Knight has been involved in countless trade rumors for quite some time, but no one has been willing to take on Knight’s five-year, $70 million dollar contract without assets attached. And now that Knight is set to miss the entire 2017-18 season, Phoenix may have to consider biting the bullet by buying out the remainder of Knight’s contract, which goes through 2020.
