Bucks Interested in JaVale McGee

The Milwaukee Bucks continue to explore the trade market for centers, according to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic.

The newest target was reportedly JaVale McGee, who has fallen out of Steve Kerr’s rotation with the Golden State Warriors.

There has been no further information about this rumor, but it would appear that the Bucks have been unable to strike a deal to obtain some of their prior interests, which included DeAndre Jordan and Tyson Chandler.

McGee has only been able to crack double digit minutes four times this month, with the high being just 15 minutes.

Despite his decent play in minimal minutes, McGee watches most Warrior games from the bench, generally in favor of ex-Buck Zaza Pachulia and rookie Jordan Bell. Despite a recent shoulder injury to Pachulia, McGee’s minutes have not changed.

The Warriors’ current system doesn’t require regular minutes from centers to win games. Their small ball lineups which generally feature Kevin Durant or Draymond Green have been proven more successful than deploying Pachulia or McGee for more than 20 minutes per game.

McGee has not seen more than 20 minutes per game since the 2011-12 season, when he split time with the Wizards and Nuggets. He finished that season averaging 11.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks across 25.2 minutes per game.

The 30-year-old has seen just over eight minutes per contest this season, averaging a mere 3.7 points.
