The long-awaited re-signing of veteran Jason Terry was finally made official Friday afternoon, Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times announced via Twitter. The one-year deal is worth $2.3 million.
The Bucks cleared a roster spot at the beginning of September after waiving and stretching Spencer Hawes’ $6M contract. It is unclear why the Bucks waited so long to re-sign Terry, but it would appear that they had planned on announcing it on his 40th birthday, which is today.
Terry had been linked to a meeting with the Minnesota Timberwolves this week, but the result of that meeting went unknown.
“The JET” appeared in 74 games for the Bucks last season, averaging 4.1 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.6 steals across 18.4 minutes per game off the bench. The numbers don’t look great on paper, but Terry’s veteran leadership and ability to knock down an occasional three is well worth a roster spot.
Terry played a key role in the 25-point comeback in game six against the Raptors last season, including the go-ahead three ball that put the Bucks up 80-78 with a few minutes left in the 4th quarter.
His minutes will probably continue to decrease with the likes of Sterling Brown, Rashad Vaughn, Malcolm Brogdon, and Matthew Dellavedova all battling for floor time alongside Terry. Jason Kidd’s rotations however, seem to be forever changing, so expect minutes to be fluctuated pretty frequently among all players on the roster.
