Can No. 24 Virginia Hang Onto Ranking Against Louisville?

After an impressive win against Florida State, the Virginia Cavaliers are looking to continue their momentum towards an ACC title game and a potential College Football Playoff push.

In front of them this week is Louisville, looking to make its own statement with a win over the ranked Cavaliers. Quarterbacks Miller Moss and Chandler Morris will face off in an ACC showdown that will certainly entertain fans and shut the door on a postseason party for the loser.

Virginia Cavaliers

In his 2025 campaign, Virginia QB Chandler Morris has thrown for 1,279 yards along with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. Three of his four interceptions came in the thrilling game against Florida State. Though he’s a threat in the passing game, his legs are an underrated part of his game. This season, he’s rushed for 169 yards and four touchdowns. 

North Carolina Central transfer J’Mari Taylor has made his presence known in the Cavaliers’ rushing attack. In 2025, he’s rushed 75 times for 397 yards and seven touchdowns. Harrison Waylee is another name to watch in the backfield. On the season, he’s rushed for 229 yards and four touchdowns.

UVA’s trio of receivers, Trell Harris, Cam Ross and Jahmal Edrine, has allowed the passing game to thrive this season. Trell Harris leads the team with 366 yards and three touchdowns. Ross and Edrine transferred into the program this season and have played extremely well. Ross moved from JMU, and Edrine came in from Purdue. 

In the secondary, Ethan Minter leads the way for a well-rounded group. Ja’son Prevard is coming off a two-interception game against FSU and looking to continue his bold play. Donovan Platt is another defensive back to watch coming into the game. He has three pass deflections, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his first interception of the 2025 season.

Anchoring the defensive line is Daniel Rickert, who’s had an impressive season to start. Rickert has 3.5 sacks and a pass deflection, along with 12 tackles. Edge Mitchell Melton is another name the Cardinals must key in on. 

Louisville Cardinals

After transferring from USC, Miller Moss has led the Cardinals to a 4-0 record and into ACC Championship contention. This season, Moss has thrown for 1,029 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has two touchdowns on the ground. Against UVA, Moss will be expected to turn things up a notch. 

Running back Isaac Brown continues his performance from last season. In his freshman season, he rushed 165 times for 1,173 yards and 11 touchdowns. Brown’s speed and agility allow him to take advantage of open space on the field. So far in his sophomore year, he’s rushed for 268 yards and three touchdowns. 

Receivers Chris Bell and Caullin Lacy have caused problems for opposing defenses. Both have combined for 598 of Louisville’s 1,116 passing yards on the season. UVA’s secondary must pay close attention to where Bell and Lacy are to prevent big plays from happening.

Linebackers TJ Quinn and Antonio Watts have been quite the duo. Between the two backers, they’ve combined for 35 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two pass deflections and four interceptions. Virginia will challenge Quinn and Watts in both the passing and running game, a challenge they must be ready for. 

Defensive back D’angelo Hutchinson and defensive lineman Clev Lubin are two other players who could make their mark in this week’s game.
