Carmelo Anthony Rules Out Cavs; Houston Is Only Destination

Houston seems to be a desired destination for numerous NBA players this offseason. New York Knicks All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony is one such player, having made it clear that he will not accept a trade to any other team, except the Rockets.

Anthony has made it clear to the Knicks front office that he is no longer willing to waive his no-trade clause for a trade to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and will only accept a trade to the Houston Rockets, according to New York Post’s Marc Berman.

Earlier on in the offseason, Anthony listed the Cavaliers or Rockets as his preferred trade destinations. However, as reports of LeBron James leaving the Cavs in 2018 and Kyrie Irving requesting a trade from the NBA Finalists have sprouted up, the risk in joining the Cavs seemed to outweigh the reward for Melo. Irving, whose preferred destination is the Knicks, would be a part of any deal for Carmelo, which would further Anthony’s reluctance to join the team.

While Anthony and Mike D’Antoni, former New York Head Coach and current Rockets Head Coach, have butted heads in the past, it seems like Melo is willing to put those differences aside to join James Harden and Chris Paul to try and dethrone the Warriors out West.
