The Cleveland Cavaliers have decided not to renew General Manager David Griffin’s contract, Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical reports.
The two sides have been at a stand still throughout the week as they “just couldn’t agree on the future,” Wojnarowski reported.
“On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Griff for his leadership and many contributions during his time here, including most recently, his role in the franchise’s first NBA Championship.
We have no announcement at this time related to new leadership of the Cavaliers basketball operations group, but we are confident our current front office will continue to aggressively explore and pursue opportunities to improve our team in the weeks ahead,” Cleveland Cavaliers chairman Dan Gilbert said in a statement
Former Detroit Piston and current ESPN NBA Analyst Chauncey Billups is the front runner for the position, Wojnarowski reported. If Billups becomes the hire, he would also become the president of basketball operations as well, according to Wojnarowski
