San Antonio Spurs backup PF/C David Lee plans to opt out of his final year on his contract, worth $1.6 million, and become a free agent, Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express reports.
Lee provided much needed frontcourt depth support for the Spurs all season long, missing only three games in the regular season. Lee averaged 7.3 points and 5.6 rebounds across 18.7 minutes per game this year. His days as a consistent starter are well over, but he can provide a solid spark of scoring and rebounding at the age of 33.
Spurs C Pau Gasol also opted out of the final year of his contract, but did so in order to seek a new deal with San Antonio.
After spending his first ten seasons with the Knicks and Warriors, Lee has played for three teams in three seasons (Boston, Dallas, San Antonio).
