Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters will undergo season-ending surgery on his injured left ankle, according to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania.

Waiters is averaging a solid 14.3 points per game but hasn’t seen the court since December 22nd due to the injury. He has been trying to play out the rest of the year and get surgery at the end of the season, but after getting a second opinion in Los Angeles, he’s decided to opt for the surgery now.

The Heat resigned him to a 4-year, $52 million contract this past offseason. Waiters posted 15.8 points per game last year with Miami and had a career resurgence of sorts, after floundering with the Oklahoma City Thunder for two seasons.

Miami (24-17) is currently on a six-game winning streak and sits fourth in the Eastern conference.
