Fantasy Football Week 10 Waiver Wire

Despite a Week 10 wire that looks thin, Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline has already breathed new life into a few players’ fantasy values. While some may be tempted to write off this week’s batch of misfits, there are a couple of moves worth making if roster space allows.

As always, I’ll be here every Tuesday with my top waiver adds of the week. Percentages are based on ESPN’s rostered player data.

Quarterbacks

Daniel Jones, New York Giants (12.4%)

While no one wants to add the antichrist to their fantasy teams, Jones looks like a solid streaming option for teams in need this week.

The Giants take on the Panthers in Germany, and given the Panthers won last week, they’re due for a loss in Week 10. Carolina’s defense is one of the worst we’ve seen in recent NFL history, with Jaycee Horn their only quality starter, and perhaps their only starter-worthy player.

Jones and the Giants should have no trouble reaching the end zone a few times, and Jones has offered small but steady production on the ground, averaging 19.4 rushing yards per game.

Running Backs

Khalil Herbert, Cincinnati Bengals (4.0%)

With the Bengals losing Zack Moss indefinitely to a neck injury, they acquired Herbert from the Bears.

It’s unclear why Herbert fell out of favor in Chicago, but there’s an argument he was their best running back over D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson. Either way, Herbert is free now and joins the Bengals where he should see enough work alongside Chase Brown to make him relevant in fantasy, although it’s unclear how snaps will be divvied up early on. I’d lean towards Herbert being the goal-line back as he’s more of a bruiser than Brown, although the two are similar in size.

Cam Akers, Minnesota Vikings (11.1%)

Akers saw six carries for 46 yards and caught two passes for seven yards Sunday against the Colts. He appears to have overtaken Ty Chandler (who was a healthy scratch Sunday) as the backup to Aaron Jones, making him a good player to stash given the quality offense in Minnesota.

Wide Receivers

Quentin Johnston, Los Angeles Chargers (21.1%)

Johnston finished second in targets and receptions behind Ladd McConkey on Sunday, but he led the team in receiving yards thanks to a 66-yard touchdown on a busted coverage by the Browns. While it’s unlikely he gets lucky in such fashion every week, Johnston has provided decent play this season, and he’s worth rostering if low on wideouts.

Elijah Moore, Cleveland Browns (7.7%)

Moore has seen 21 targets over his past two games with Amari Cooper gone, but he’s hauled in just 11 for 113 yards. It leaves something to be desired from the fourth-year receiver, but so long as those targets keep coming, Moore should be a threat to post flex-worthy numbers in the coming weeks.

D.J. Chark, Los Angeles Chargers (2.3%)

Chark has been activated from injured reserve and has a shot to play in Week 10. I like the addition of Chark because he still has something left in the tank. The Chargers signed him this offseason intending to give him a significant role, but he’s yet to play this year. If he goes Sunday, I’ll be watching closely to see if he can give the Chargers’ offense another threat.

Tight Ends

Mike Gesicki, Cincinnati Bengals (10.9%)

Gesicki posted 100 yards and two touchdowns against the Raiders last week with Tee Higgins out, and he could be in line for another big game if Higgins misses again in Week 10 against the Ravens. The Ravens’ defense has been vulnerable against the pass this season, making it a good matchup for the pass-happy Bengals who put up 38 points against them just a handful of weeks ago.

Jonnu Smith, Miami Dolphins (12.9%)

Smith remains involved in the Dolphins offense, catching five passes for 46 yards Sunday against the Bills. He’s averaging just under seven targets a game over his past four contests, making him a high-floor option for tight ends.
