The Philadelphia 76ers seem to be really trusting the process these days, in fact, they are going all in on their star center Joel Embiid. The 76ers and Embiid have agreed on a five-year, $148M extension, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported.
If Embiid meets the supermax criteria, he could earn a lump sum of $178M throughout the course of this new deal. As indicated by Wojnarowski, the Sixers have some stability composed into the new contract, should Embiid sustains more extreme injuries that would power him to miss expanded time.
Last season, as a rookie, Embiid averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 31 games. Embiid last played Jan. 27 due to a meniscus tear in his left knee. He missed the remainder of the season. Prior to being drafted in 2014, Embiid suffered a stress fracture in his right foot that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. The 76ers took precaution to this and sidelined him for the remaining of the 2014-15 season as well.
