Jordan Love Ready for Statement Win Over Aaron Rodgers

Aaron Rodgers is arguably the greatest quarterback in Green Bay Packers history. However, it’s his former understudy, Jordan Love, who appears primed to win a storybook matchup against his mentor when the Packers and Steelers face off on Sunday Night Football in Week 8.

The Packers enter the matchup as 3.5-point favorites, according to ESPN Bet, as they travel to Pittsburgh to take on Rodgers and the Steelers.

Rodgers vs. Love is shaping up to be the storyline of the week in the NFL. Love famously sat behind Rodgers for three seasons before taking over as the Packers’ starter in 2023. Since then, Green Bay has maintained its tradition of success, making playoff appearances in each of the past two seasons. Meanwhile, Rodgers experienced an underwhelming tenure as a New York Jet.

Now, in 2025, both quarterbacks lead playoff-hopeful franchises—but only one will earn bragging rights over the other on Sunday night.

Green Bay’s Superior Supporting Cast

All eyes will be on the quarterbacks, but the supporting casts of the two stars will likely determine the winner.

The Packers are fresh off a come-from-behind victory fueled by a dominate three-sack performance from star defender Micah Parsons. Despite having their own four-time All-Pro pass rusher in T.J. Watt, the Steelers are at a disadvantage defensively. Through six games, Green Bay has an advantage over Pittsburgh in yards and points allowed.

As if that weren’t enough to excite Packers fans, Green Bay also features a stronger ground game. Running back Josh Jacobs has scored eight touchdowns this season and leads a rushing attack that ranks ahead of the Steelers in yards and yards per carry. These advantages could force Rodgers to win the game through the air, while Love’s task will be to manage it, and rather avoid losing it.

Pittsburgh Healthier Than Green Bay

The Steelers can take comfort in entering Week 8 healthier than their opponent. They’ve enjoyed three extra days of rest and preparation following their Thursday Night Football appearance in Week 7. Head coach Mike Tomlin was happy to announce that the team escaped the game without “any real injuries to speak of”.

Meanwhile, the Packers are managing several injuries, most notably to defensive linemen Devonte Wyatt and Lukas Van Ness. Their absences could hinder Green Bay’s pass rush and ability to slow down Pittsburgh’s ground game. Defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley has developed creative solutions to account for the absence of Wyatt and Van Ness, but the Steelers will undoubtedly look to exploit the weakened defensive front.

Packers’ Road to Victory

Green Bay has a deep and talented football team. The media will make this contest out to be a battle between two quarterbacks.

The Packers must avoid this thought process at all costs. Love and the Packers have found success running the ball at the third-highest rate in the NFL. They must maintain their identity and avoid outside influence.

Green Bay is at their best when they run the ball, play good defense, and limit their mistakes. Jordan Love is fully prepared to make a statement victory over his former mentor, but he must not try to do it himself.
