On Saturday, Kevin Love didn’t play against his former team the Minnesota Timberwolves because he went through an MRI. The MRI revealed that he needs to go through minor surgery. Source tells ESPN that Kevin Love will undergo a scope on his left knee and miss six weeks according to Dave Menamin.
The Cavaliers Head Coach Tyron Lue told the media that he is worried about Loves’ injury. Lue already feels like his team is short handed.
“Always concerned when guys are going down. And we’re already limited as it is”
This injury will hurt Kevin Love the most because he is having his best season as a Cavalier. He is averaging 20.0 points, 11.1 rebounds, and a 21.99 PER.
Kevin Love has been dealing with nagging injuries throughout his career. He twice suffered a broken hand while playing with the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2015, he suffered an aching back the whole season, in during the playoff run in 2014–15 he missed key games due to a shoulder dislocation.
The Cavaliers recently signed Derrick Williams on a 10-day contract. Williams allows the Cavs to play small ball down the stretch. With Love gone, we will see much more of Derrick Williams. In his last 10 games, he’s averaging 9.5 PPG and shooting 83%. Lebron James recently said he want Cleveland to extend his contract.
“We hope that this is a long-term thing,” James said of Williams after the Cavs’ 125–109 win over the Denver Nuggets on Saturday. “Obviously, we know that he’s on a 10-day contract, but we believe it’s going to be long-term.”
The Cleveland Cavaliers 1st place spot is in danger right now, and if the Cavs cannot find the chemistry to win games while Love is out, then it can it could cost them a top seed come playoff time.
