The New York Knicks have struggled to become an attractive free agent destination for many top players in the league. However, new front office management has slowly started to right the ship, signing forward Michael Beasley to a one-year minimum contract, according to ESPN’s Ian Begley.
Beasley, the number two pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, has had a disappointing career despite lofty expectations coming in as a rookie from Kansas State. The Knicks mark Beasley’s sixth NBA team over his nine-year career, with stops in Miami, Minnesota, Phoenix, Houston, and Milwaukee. Beasley also has played in the Chinese Basketball Association for the Shanghai Sharks and Shandong Golden Stars.
With Carmelo Anthony looking to force himself out of the Big Apple, Beasley has the opportunity to play heavy minutes at the small-forward spot and perhaps, start. With Kristaps Porzingis emerging as a star and the mystery of point guard Frank Ntilikina, a talented scorer like Beasley could be a nice addition to the roster.
Last season with the Bucks, Beasley averaged 9.4 points and 3.4 rebounds in 16.7 minutes while shooting 53.2 percent from the field.
