LA Fallout; Lakers Failed to Schedule Meeting with George

With all signs pointing to hometown kid Paul George signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, there was a sudden change in events. After opting out of his deal, and agreeing to a three-episode series with ESPN about his decision, the decision seemed clear.

George has agreed to a 4-year, $137 million deal that includes a player option after the 3rd year with the Oklahoma City Thunder. George has previously mentioned he has dreamed about wearing the Lakers jersey as a kid, yet thought to pursue other options. By agreeing to this deal, George is willingly accepting a Robin role with Westbrook as Batman.

George informed the Thunder organization about his intentions previously, thus leading up to his decision being revealed at Westbrook’s party. At the party he stated, “I’m here to stay!”  By the time this deal is over with, George will be 32, therefore he will be in good position to sign another large deal.

Notably, Magic Johnson and the Lakers were fined $500,000 last summer for illegal tampering with Paul George. The Lakers were unable to secure a meeting with George, which was rather surprising.
