The Brooklyn Nets were dreadful last season. Being this bad, you are usually rewarded with a top pick, but with their pick in the hands of Boston, they were unable to get a top pick despite having the worst record in the league. With the likes of Markelle Fultz, Lonzo Ball, and Jayson Tatum headlining the 2017 NBA Draft, the Nets were forced to watch from the sidelines and witness the Boston Celtics complete the fleecing of the century. Despite everything that went wrong for the Nets last season, PG Jeremy Lin believes they are going to be going places next year. The playoffs, to be precise.
The Nets PG, while answering fan questions, boldly said,”We’re making the playoffs. I don’t care what anybody else tells me.” While Lin might seem crazy, he might not be completely wrong. The Nets have quietly been making moves this offseason, acquiring rising star D’Angelo Russell to pair with Lin in the backcourt, as well as signing swingman DeMarre Carroll during free agency. Russell, who has shown flashes of brilliance during his career with the Lakers, is the perfect piece the Nets can build their franchise around, and DeMarre Carroll provides the veteran leadership that the Nets truly need. These two pieces added to a young core in Jeremy Lin, Caris LaVert, and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson give the Nets a solid roster for the 2017-2018 season.
A watered down Eastern Conference without the likes of Paul George, Jimmy Butler, and Paul Millsap has made the playoff race out east a joke, with many subpar teams now finding themselves as playoff contenders. If the Nets can string together a .500 season, Jeremy Lin’s prediction might not seem so Linsane.
