Oklahoma City Thunder guard Luguentz Dort, also known as the “Dorture Chamber,” is one of the league’s best defenders.

Dort worked his way into the Thunder organization the hard way. After going undrafted in 2019, Dort signed a two-way deal with the team. In 2020, he worked his way up into the rotation, eventually earning a four-year extension.

As a result of his defense, he has earned his spot on this rising Thunder team.

Lu Dort’s Lockdown Defense

Lu Dort’s ability to shut down some of the best scorers in the league is unmatched.

On Jan. 5, the Thunder took on the reigning champion Boston Celtics. Celtics star Jaylen Brown erupted in the first half of the game, scoring 21 points, but he was held to zero points in the second half.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault only had to make one simple defensive adjustment to stop Brown.

Although it may seem that way, Dort hasn’t just shut down one player this year. He has shut down plenty of the league’s top scorers, including five 2025 All-Stars in Jaylen Brown, Tyler Herro, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Donovan Mitchell.

If stopping All-Stars dead in their tracks isn’t worthy of an all-defensive selection, then what is?

Statistical Breakdown

Dort is ranked eighth on the NBA’s defensive rating list with a 104.9 mark. He is also holding his opponents to 43.9% field-goal shooting, which is impressive considering that on most nights, Dort is tasked with defending the opposing team’s top scoring option.

Praise From Opponents

Many of Lu’s opponents have spoken out about his defense and how he has yet to make an All-Defensive team.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards said, “I thought he (Dort) should’ve been on one of the Defensive Teams, for sure.”

LeBron James has even spoken about what to do when guarded by Dort, saying, “You got to screen him… get him up off me for a little bit.”

Dort’s impact on the defensive end hasn’t gone completely unnoticed over the past few years, even though he has still not earned All-Defensive honors.

Opposing teams feel his impact every game. Teams are constantly forced to throw screens at him in an attempt to get him off the ball. He has been Oklahoma City’s go-to guy when it comes to getting stops defensively. He is the top defender on the team with the best defense in the NBA.

There is no better year than this year to give Lu Dort his credit and finally crown him an all-defensive player. He has rightfully earned the nickname the Dorture Chamber for a reason.
