The Miami Hurricanes and Florida State Seminoles meet for the 70th time this Saturday. The Canes lead the all-time series 36-33. This time around, the two teams will face off in a high-stakes ACC matchup. The first matchup on October 5, 1951, resulted in a Canes 35-13 win.

Tommy Castellanos and Carson Beck will duel to see which quarterback leads their team to a key top-25 win. After a tough 46-38 loss against the Virginia Cavaliers, the Seminoles look to rebound and re-enter ACC Championship contention. On the other side, the Canes have another chance to prove why they’re the No. 3 team in the country.

How Do The Seminoles Respond?

After a 254-yard, two-interception, one-touchdown game, Castellanos gets a chance to respond at home. Since transferring from Boston College, he’s had plenty of ups and downs. Castellanos is a legit dual-threat quarterback who has scored eight total touchdowns (four passing, four rushing).  Though he’s thrown three interceptions, there is plenty of room for him to improve and get comfortable.

In the run game, Oklahoma transfer Gavin Sawchuk has produced as the lead back. On 42 carries, he’s rushed for 234 yards and six touchdowns. Combined with the legs of Castellanos, the Seminoles’ run game looks to come alive this week. In 2025, Sawchuk’s averaged 5.6 yards per carry.

Despite dropping last week’s game-tying touchdown in double overtime, wide receiver Duce Robinson has created mismatches on the outside. Robinson, a 6-foot-6 target, has big-play ability and can be a threat with jump balls. So far this season, Robinson’s caught 17 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns.

Another weapon that’s arisen is freshman receiver Micahi Danzy. Danzy has caught seven passes for 168 yards. If the Seminoles want to become more well-rounded, finding ways to get him involved should become a bigger focus.

Defensive back Ashlynd Barker presents a multitude of challenges. On the season, he has 13 tackles, two sacks, and two pass deflections. Mixing his pass coverage skills with his ability to blitz has allowed him to become a multi-purpose player.

Linebacker Elijah Herring is another player the Canes should key in on. His ability to tackle and play pass coverage makes him a threat on the Seminoles’ defense. In 2025, he’s had 14 tackles, a sack, and an interception.

Canes’ Continued Dominance

As the season continues, Beck and company are entering their third top-25 matchup this season. The first two games occurred in the season opener against Notre Dame and in a Week 3 showdown against the University of South Florida. That doesn’t even include what was supposed to be a much bigger game when they took on the Florida Gators.

In 2025, Beck has played efficient football helping the Canes win closely contested matchups. Completing 73% of his passes, he’s thrown for 972 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions. After a UCL injury ended Beck’s season in 2024, he’s responded by playing confidently. If he continues to play his best, Miami should remain among the top five teams in college football.

Running back dynamic duo Mark Fletcher and CharMar Brown present a threat to the Seminoles’ defense. Knowing the Seminoles surrendered 211 yards to Virginia’s rushing attack, the Canes should take advantage. This season, Fletcher and Brown have combined for 594 of Miami’s 722 rushing yards. Along with the 594 combined yards, they’ve also accounted for nine scores.

Freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney has had quite the impact in the passing game. In year one, he’s caught 22 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown. LSU transfer CJ Daniels has also performed for Miami. On 18 catches, he’s totaled 191 receiving yards and three scores. Even with Daniels and Toney doing well, Keelan Marion has allowed Miami to have a trio of options for Beck.

No One Can Stop the Ruben Bain Train

Defensive lineman Rueben Bain has been one of the best defenders in college football. This season, he’s totaled 22 tackles, three sacks, a pass deflection, an interception, and a forced fumble, truly marking his imprint on the game.

Mohammed Toure and Akheem Mesidor are also impact players along the Canes’ front seven. In the secondary, Jakobe Thomas is another playmaker who can blitz and create plays around the ball.
