Milwaukee Signs Gerald Green

Gerald Green has reportedly agreed to a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania. The addition of Green pushes the Bucks training camp roster to 20. Which means at least three players will need to be cut, and up to two could be given two-way contracts.

This season would be Green’s 11th in the NBA, he also spent two years playing professionally in Russia. His tenure in the NBA has been a rollercoaster ride, for the most part. He was drafted with hype, but didn’t immediately pan out. He played for four teams his first four seasons before venturing overseas. In 2013-14, Green returned to the NBA with a bang; appearing in all 82 games with the Phoenix Suns, including 48 starts, and averaged 15.8 points per game. Last year, he played in 47 games with the Celtics, scoring 5.6 ppg in just 11.4 minutes per contest.

Boston was expected to try and bring Green back with their final roster spot, but it looks like the Bucks beat them to the punch – for now. It is very likely that Green could still be cut before the start of the season. Milwaukee recently added Brandon Rush and Kendall Marshall to their roster for training camp, as well. It appears likely that these guys will ultimately be competing with each other for one of the Bucks’ final roster spots.

Rookies DJ Wilson and Sterling Brown are near-locks to make the roster. But Sterling might be a candidate for one of Milwaukee’s newly-opened two-way contracts. However, Gary Payton II and James Young are more logical predictions for the two-way deals. If GP2 and Young are indeed given those spots, then that means only one of the three (Green, Rush, Marshall) will be able to make the Bucks final roster.

JeQuan Lewis, an undrafted rookie, will also attend training camp but is unlikely to make the regular season roster. I’d expect him to be a candidate to be signed to the Wisconsin Herd, or possibly one of the two-way contracts.
