The Brooklyn Nets have made some minor changes to their injury-riddled roster. The first move of note was the release of guard David Nwaba after the Nets learned he will miss the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles tendon. To replace Nwaba, the team plans to sign guard/forward Justin Anderson to a 10-day contract, per The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The move to sign Anderson from the Toronto Raptors G League affiliate comes as a surprising move. The popular move would have been to re-sign Iman Shumpert.
Anderson averaged 24.3 points over 35.5 minutes per game for Raptors 905. Another key statistic to note was Anderson’s impressive numbers shooting the basketball– 49.5% from the field and 40% from deep.
The Nets are giving Anderson the opportunity because his numbers speak for themselves. Anderson, 26, has yet to be given a realistic chance in the NBA. Ironically, the decision to bring Anderson aboard could have happened following Anderson’s 40-point performance against the Long Island Nets.
Originally drafted by the Mavericks in 2015, Anderson is seeking stability after stints with Dallas, Philly, and Atlanta. He spent the preseason with the Wizards but did not make their opening-night roster. This led to Anderson playing the first few months of the 2019-2020 season for Raptors 905.
The signing of Anderson has him reunited with Joe Harris, the two were teammates at the University of Virginia. The Nets are Anderson’s fourth NBA team. The guard will likely be available to make his potential Nets debut when the team hosts the Raptors on Saturday.
