The Sacramento Kings’ winning streak against the Toronto Raptors was snapped on Sunday after DeMar DeRozan and company led the Raptors to a 102-97 win.
Sacramento entered the game having won the last four contests against Toronto, and were debuting their new black Statement jerseys. The Raptors jumped out to a 20-7 lead early on as the Kings struggled to defend the three-point line. Toronto slumped near the end of the quarter however, only shooting 11% (2 of 18) after making 7 of their opening 8, ending with a 22-17 lead.
The Kings kept the tempo up to start the 2nd, taking the lead four minutes into the quarter. However 12 first half turnovers did not help things as Toronto continued to rain down shots, retaking the lead and extending it to 8 before halftime.
De’Aaron Fox continued to struggle, failing to score in the first half and only recording two assists. Conversely, Buddy Hield continued his great for from the bench, scoring 17 points and three rebounds.
The Kings tried to keep pace with Toronto through the second half, but couldn’t manage to close the gap, as Toronto gave Sacramento their 18th loss of the season. DeRozan finished with 25 points while Serge Ibaka and Kyle Lowry added 20 and 15 respectively. Zach Randolph finished as Sacramento’s top scorer again with 19 points and 11 rebounds. The Kings next game is Tuesday against the Phoenix Suns.
