Ranking Every NFL Week 15 Matchup

Welcome to the “Watchability stakes” – a ranking of the weekly matchups ahead in the NFL. Games are tiered based on three factors: narrative, implications and general intrigue. You will be seeing The Lead’s NFL game watchability rankings at the start of the week to get you ready for football action.

For many teams across the league, the stakes at this point in the year couldn’t be any higher.

Week 15 marks a pivotal point in the NFL calendar. Every NFL team will play from here on out to the end of the regular season. For fans, the treat is for all 32 teams in action and 16 games, where a lot can change. Most games are significant in the grand scheme with the playoffs around the corner.

This week, the dominant story remains that fans are being treated to two games against teams with 10 wins or more. Each game pits a top AFC team against one of the best by record from the other conference.

That marquee lineup aside, almost every game has implications for seeding and the playoff race. This trend manifests in our usual weekly rankings of all the games this week. Six games in Tier 1 and Tier 2, compared to just two games stuck in Tier 5. Even the Tier 4 games will mean something from now until Week 18.

Here are your rankings of all the games in Week 15:

NFL Week 15 Tier 1: Absolutely can’t miss

Buffalo Bills (10-3) versus Detroit Lions (12-1) – Sunday @ 4:25 pm EST

• A loaded Tier 1 begins with the NFC’s best team against one of the hotter teams in the AFC. Buffalo, coming off a close road loss to the Rams, remains a legit force. Expect the Bills and Lions to put on an offensive clinic like their last game.

Pittsburgh Steelers (10-3) versus Philadelphia Eagles (11-2) – Sunday @ 4:25 pm EST

• The next Tier 1 game also occurs in that Sunday late afternoon window. Philly won despite a closer-than-expected game against Carolina last week. Pittsburgh remains in the clear hunt for a top-three seed, while Philly eyes a similar goal in the other conference.

Green Bay Packers (9-4) versus Seattle Seahawks (8-5) – Sunday @ 8:20 pm EST

• Two quality teams are playing much better football now than earlier in the season. Plus, two NFC teams are in the thick of the playoff picture. In Seattle’s case, the goal remains to be in first place in the NFC West.

NFL Week 15 Tier 2: This could be fun

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-6) versus Los Angeles Chargers (8-5) – Sunday @ 4:25 pm EST

• Buried beneath two Tier 1 games, Tampa Bay is holding onto its lead in the NFC South by a game. Meanwhile, the Chargers sit in the thick of the AFC playoff race but could easily drop out if the wins don’t keep coming.

Los Angeles Rams (7-6) versus San Francisco 49ers (6-7) – Thursday @ 8:15 pm EST

• A simple narrative here: the NFC West remains a wide-open division still. That is likely the only playoff spot guaranteed this time among those four teams. This could be a win or go home for a good game for either team just looking at the rest of the conference’s postseason picture.

Miami Dolphins (6-7) versus Houston Texans (8-5) – Sunday @ 1 pm EST

• Miami’s outside-looking-in playoff hopes meet another tough test, this time against an AFC division leader that has played up-and-down throughout 2024. Easily the game with the most significance in the Sunday early-afternoon window.

NFL Week 15 Tier 3: Decent floor, high upside

Kansas City Chiefs (12-1) versus Cleveland Browns (3-10) – Sunday @ 1 pm EST

• Kansas City remains the expected favorite, but closer margins of victory and a tough road environment make Cleveland at least a wildcard for an upset.

Chicago Bears (4-9) versus Minnesota Vikings (11-2) – Monday @ 8 pm EST

• Chicago’s season looks over, but this team has repeatedly played close over the past two months. Minnesota remains fighting for the division and decent seeding in the NFC. Considering the other Monday Night Football game on the board, this one is clearly the best.

NFL Week 15 Tier 4: It could always be worse

Baltimore Ravens (8-5) versus New York Giants (2-11) – Sunday @ 1 pm EST

• An upset from the Giants is very unlikely to happen. That being said, Baltimore’s recent skid and the closely contested AFC wild-card picture make this game more intriguing.

Washington Commanders (8-5) versus New Orleans Saints (5-8) – Sunday @ 1 pm EST

• New Orleans likely falls just outside, catching up in its division. Washington still needs the win to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot the rest of the way.

New England Patriots (3-10) versus Arizona Cardinals (6-7) – Sunday @ 4:25 pm EST

• Similar to the narrative above, only Arizona faces a steeper climb, considering how tight its division is.

Cincinnati Bengals (5-8) versus Tennessee Titans (3-10) – Sunday @ 1 pm EST

• Cincinnati’s elite offense remains the one major thing keeping the Bengals alive in the playoff picture, even if it is a long-shot chance.

Dallas Cowboys (5-8) versus Carolina Panthers (3-10) – Sunday @ 1 pm EST

• Dallas really needs a win, or its long-shot odds to make the postseason are probably over. At least Carolina will put up a fight compared to the other teams on the board.

Tier 5: Snooze Fest

Atlanta Falcons (6-7) versus Las Vegas Raiders (2-11) – Monday @ 8:30 pm EST

• Atlanta catches a break facing a Las Vegas team that hasn’t won a game since September.

New York Jets (3-10) versus Jacksonville Jaguars (3-10) – Sunday @ 1 pm EST

• The easiest choice to make this week. This is the only game where both teams are really this far away from being .500. The more interesting story here is the race for a top pick in the upcoming draft.
