With Trade Deadline in Sight, Many Suggest Brogdon to be Dealt
With the February 8th trade deadline fast approaching, teams looking to make a move are on the clock to potentially make a splash in the market that will hopefully catapult them into contention. That being said, fans have been buzzing with what the Bucks should give up in order to receive a player that will help on-court performance here in Milwaukee. One name that always seems to be mentioned that surprises me is none other than Malcolm Brogdon. In his second year, Brogdon has become an easy throw in for fans to give away in trade scenarios this season, but truly looking at what Malcolm offers to the Bucks, it’s fair to say that losing him would do more harm than good.
With a Bucks team that has seen concerns with their lack of depth, it has me wondering where the flaw is in Brogdon’s play that makes him an easy player for outsiders to want to trade. Ever since he stepped down in Milwaukee, Brogdon has done everything that he could to make sure he wasn’t just another second round draft pick that never made a name for himself. We know that he went on to win Rookie of the Year, only the second Buck to do so, and in his sophomore year, his game continues to grow. Enough that I believe he has not only earned his spot on this seasons roster, but for years to come.
Second Year Growth Should Secure Brogdon’s Spot
From what was an impressive rookie season, Brogdon has elevated his game to where he is top five in points with an average of 13.3 per game and he is also one of the better shooters beyond the arc for the Bucks at 37.6%. Additionally, he adds consistent defense and a poised mentality. Especially coming off a game against the Phoenix Suns Monday night, where he posted a career high 32 points while going three from four from three point range. Showcasing in a Giannis-less game that he can be trusted to provide scoring in a time of need.
Brogdon’s Stellar Performance Monday Night Is Proof Enough
Now his stats may not be on superstar level, but Milwaukee already has one of those in Giannis Antetokounmpo. What the Bucks need are role players who can step on the court day in and day out and leave it all on the floor. Brogdon has showed that with his fearless play against top competitors and his drive to grow. His maturity and basketball IQ on the court is one of the team’s best and as that continues to grow through good coaching and trust from his teammates, there is no reason for Brogdon to be attached to a less than stellar deal.
Fans want what is best for the team and ultimately what will make them a championship contender, but that does not mean the organization should be foolish with the talent they have. It would be understandable if a once in a lifetime trade came along that would greatly improve the Bucks, but those opportunities are rare to come by. With a team that currently lacks depth and defense, Brogdon adds to both with his patience and skills on the court. So before one should throw Brogdon’s name around in trade discussions, they should think long and hard about what he has to offer and realize that Malcolm is one player we should not let get away so easily.
