NYPD police are closing in on arresting NBA player and Sacramento Kings F Matt Barnes for assaulting a woman during a brawl at a Chelsea nightclub, sources said Friday.
Barnes, 36, and fellow Sacramento Kings player DeMarcus Cousins, 26, have been under investigation for their role in the fight early Monday at the swanky Avenue nightclub on 10th Ave. near W. 17th St. Cops have been collecting security video and interviewing witnesses all week, a source familiar with the investigation said.
“An arrest of Barnes would be one step towards the justice that should be served for his actions in that club that night,”officer Lamonsoff said Friday. “This gentleman obviously has an anger management problem.
“The failure to immediately arrest Cousins is a mistake,” he added. “There’s ample evidence of his role in the brutal assault on this couple. His actions were just as bad as those of Barnes.”

The Kings are currently struggling with a record of eight wins and 13 losses. This is the last thing they wanted to worry about.
