Orlando Magic Fire Rob Hennigan

on

The Orlando Magic have fired General Manager Rob Hennigan along with assistant General Manager Scott Perry. Hennigan spent five years with the Magic.

The firings are coming a day after the ending of the season for the Magic in an attempt to move towards a new direction. The CEO for the Magic, Alex Martins, released a statement shortly following the decision.

“We appreciate Rob’s efforts to rebuild the team, but feel we have not made any discernible improvement over the last few years specifically,” Orlando Magic CEO Alex Martins said. “It’s time for different leadership in basketball operations. We certainly wish Rob and his family well.”

The Magic are coming off of a 29-53 season, good for 13th in the Eastern conference. They made some moves by getting Serge Ibaka from the Thunder in exchange for guard Victor Oladipo.

As a result of the firing, Matt Lloyd has been named interim GM and chances are he will be holding the permanent position.

“Matt brings solid experience, and his appointment as general manager on an interim basis will allow us to seamlessly continue our preparations for the upcoming draft,” Martins said.

It is now officially the offseason for the Magic and they are expected to have a busy offseason.

Bennigan was 35 years old, youngest GM in the league.
