The Milwaukee Bucks are surging.
Winners of six of their last seven and 18-6 overall, the Bucks continue to prove why they are one of the NBA’s premier showcase organizations.
One of the Bucks’ overlooked strengths this season has been the consistency of rebounding, leading to second-chance points. As of December 8th, the Bucks rank second in total rebounds (48.3/game) and tenth in offensive rebounds (11.6/game), leading to 15.1 second-chance points per contest, which ranks ninth.
Next to Giannis Antetokounmpo, no one comes close to being more instrumental to this than the man everyone loves, Bobby Portis. Portis has always been a Bucks fan favorite, but he has truly emerged to sixth-man-of-the-year contention this season. The 27-year-old is known for his tenacious effort on defense and as a two-way team player.
Grit. Determination. Buckets.
Through 24 games, Portis averages a double double of 13.6 points (49% FG) and 10.2 rebounds (career high) to go along with 2.3 assists (career high) across just 26.6 minutes per game.

The day following the Bucks’ hard-fought loss to the Lakers, Portis was called to start where all but one regular starter (Grayson Allen) was out due to injury or rest. Bobby Buckets led the charge with team highs of 20 points, eight rebounds and seven assists en route to a road win with Giannis, Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton and Brook Lopez all out.
Bobby’s Numbers Strong Across the Board
In what is now his third season in Milwaukee, Portis’ across-the-board contributions are what every team desires. Here’s where his numbers stack up against the rest of the Bucks as we hit the quarter turn of the 2022-23 season.
- Has appeared in all 24 games with Jevon Carter and George Hill
- 13.6 points per game (4th)
- 48.9% FG (2nd among players with min. four shots/game)
- 10.2 rebounds per game (2nd)
- 2.3 offensive rebounds per game (leads team)
All of this while averaging just the seventh-most minutes per game (26.6).
