The NFL Draft is less than a month away, and no one knows what the Bills are going to do with the 26th pick.
There are still a lot of positions the team can improve at, such as wide receiver, linebacker, and secondary.
However, there is one position and one player that stands out among the others at the end of the first round: Texas A&M wide receiver Kevin ‘KC’ Concepcion.
The Bills met with Concepcion at the NFL Combine and plan to use one of their 30 pre-draft visits on him, signaling strong and genuine interest in the wide receiver.
Showing interest in a player is one thing, but following through is what truly matters; the Bills would be wise to do so, because Concepcion would be a perfect fit for Buffalo’s wide receiver room.
Bills Need More Help at Wide Receiver
Over the past few years, the Bills have had a weak wide receiver room, to put it lightly. They have been missing a true wide receiver one. This offseason, they have already begun to address the concerns by trading a second-round pick to the Chicago Bears for D.J. Moore and a fifth-round pick.
While the trade definitely helps the Bills’ problems, it doesn’t completely fix them. Moore, an eight-year veteran, is coming off the worst season of his career. He no longer has what it takes to be a true first-option receiver who can handle the bulk of the targets. He’s also nearing the end of his career, meaning he won’t be a Bill forever.
Concepcion solves that problem and would complement Moore nicely. He could help ease the pressure on Moore while developing under his mentorship, potentially positioning himself as the team’s future No. 1 receiver.
It also never hurts to give 2024 MVP Josh Allen more weapons, as it will only make him and the entire offense better.
KC Concepcion’s Wide Skill Set
What sets Concepcion apart from the rest of the receivers in this year’s draft class is his wide range of skills on the football field.
For starters, he creates challenges for opposing defenses with his elite speed and sharp route-running abilities that allow him to generate separation, including after the catch. He is also no stranger to the endzone. Concepcion scored 25 receiving touchdowns in his three-year collegiate career. His nine receiving touchdowns last season led all players in the SEC.
Concepcion can also be used in the run game, as he recorded 431 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns in college. Buffalo hasn’t had a receiver that can also excel in the rushing game, although Moore did see 14 and 15 rushing attempts the past two seasons.
Concepcion has also been used in special teams, returning 26 punts last season, and averaging 17.5 yards per return.
He’s an all-around threat, capable of contributing in multiple aspects of the game, and the Bills could really use a multi-faceted skill position player like that.
Hometown Hero
But perhaps most importantly in the eyes of Bills Mafia, Concepcion was born in Rochester, NY, an hour away from Buffalo, lived in the city until he was five years old, and even attended the University of Buffalo for one year.
The Bills happen to be his father’s favorite team, and Concepcion has been watching them since he was a kid.
In an interview at the NFL combine, Concepcion talked about what it would mean to join the team, saying, “I’ve been seeing Josh Allen, he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league. I would be grateful (to get drafted by the Bills).”
Concepcion has an interest in joining the team, which is always a bonus when drafting a young player, and surely Bills Mafia will get behind the hometown hero if he were to thrive in Buffalo.
Bills Can’t Mess This Pick Up
The Bills have been constantly drafting busts in the first round of the draft. It’s time Beane makes the right move and drafts Concepcion.
Wide receiver is still a need, and Concepcion is a player who can make an immediate difference for a team that has the most playoff wins since 2020 without a Super Bowl appearance.
If Concepcion is still there at pick No. 26, the Bills should not pass up on him.
