Rose Will be Limping Into Free Agency This Offseason

on

Down goes Derrick Rose. Rose almost went through a full year without any major injuries. On Sunday, Rose torn his meniscus. Would teams give Rose another chance in the offseason?

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports, Derrick Rose torn his meniscus and will most the rest of the season. Ian Begley of ESPN also reported Rose would require having an arthroscopy.

Kristaps Porzingis told Stefan Bondy of New York Daily News that he feel bad for Rose.

“I feel bad for him,” Kristaps Porzingis said. “I know how hard he worked throughout the season to maintain the shape that he has and make sure he avoids all those injuries as much as he can. And to see that happen to him right now at the end of the season, it’s tough.”

Head coach Jeff Hornacek said he started to see flashes of the old Rose.

“The explosiveness that we saw years ago, you saw quite a bit this year,” Hornacek said. “So again, the way the season has gone, to have something happen towards the end, it’s a tough break for him.”

Rose was one of the best point guards throughout 2008–2012 season. He was also considered the top 10 best players in the NBA during that stretch and won NBA MVP in the 2011 season. He was averaging 25 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Nobody could stop the young Chicago assassin. He was the Russell Westbrook of today during that three-year span.

Rose who had the NBA most respect from experts, against critics and fans. There was nothing bad about Rose.

He led his team to multiple playoff appearances in his first six years in the league. Of course, there was LeBron James in his way to get to the finals. But there was one season where the Bulls were just unstoppable, 2010. They entered the playoffs with the best record of 62-20.

It was an awful playoff experience for any Bulls fans. In the first round, it was the Chicago Bulls vs. Philadelphia 76ers. The Bulls were up by a margin of 12 with about 1:20 to play, Rose left the floor, clutching his left knee. Former Chicago and now Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau kept rose in the match. Rose went up for a lay up and once he came down there was breathtaking silence from everyone at the United Center. Rose had torn his ACL.

In his first season back from surgery, he tore the meniscus in his right knee and would go on to miss the final 72 games of that season. The following year, Rose limps off the court in Portland after losing his footing while trying to change direction. He again suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee caused him to miss 76 games in 2013. And then in 2015, Rose tore his right Feb 24 and he missed 20 games.

New York took a chance on him in the traded for Derrick Rose. Rose was good this year but didn’t fit the New York Knicks offense. He averaged 18 points on 47 percent shooting as the third scoring option on the team. Rose didn’t have any major injuries throughout the year until April 2nd. This season was his best since his first ACL injury.

The torn meniscus isn’t the only bad thing for Rose. He is in the final year of his contract. Rose will become a free agent for the first time this season. The former MVP was looking forward to free agency. This injury will lower his stock down this offseason. He garnered a lot of attention from multiple teams in the league according to Ian Begley of ESPN.

Will Rose career come to him finally coming off the bench or will a team give Rose a chance? Just count out the New York Knicks on giving Rose a contract. After everything that’s been going on through the season, New York will not spend a lot of time talking to Rose this offseason. Rose went AWOL on the team in January. Additionally, New York is falling in love with Ron Baker. Baker is Hornacek favorite player on the team because he reminds him of himself. Baker won over head coach Jeff Hornacek according to Marc Berman of the New York Post and according to a source, Phil Jackson is on board as well.

New York will also have the top seven draft pick this year and this draft is filled with talented point guards. They will be shopping for point guards in both free agency and the draft, one that can fit their style of play.
