On Friday, a 9-foot, 1,200-pound bronze statue of Los Angeles Laker and NBA great Shaquille O’Neal is set to be unveiled on Friday.
The statue is connected to Staple Center and will be suspended 10 feet off the ground, it was brought to Los Angeles Thursday prior to the unveiling ceremony scheduled for Friday afternoon.
The ceremony will take place at the Star Plaza right outside of the Staples Center. It is expected to have live music, and feature speeches from former colleagues, former teammates and the Diesel O’Neal himself. Former running mate Kobe Bryant and the Zen Master Phil Jackson are expected to be in attendance along with Laker greats Jerry West and Kareem Abdul-Jabar.
O’Neal was the anchor for the Lakers from 1996 to 2004, leading the team to three consecutive NBA championships and winning three NBA finals MVPs as well.
