The Greek Freak Effect

Another NBA All-Star weekend has come and gone and with all the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles being shown throughout the world, Milwaukee’s focus was on Giannis Antetokounmpo.  As the Bucks star forward made his second consecutive starting All-Star appearance, it was evident more than ever that the Greek Freak is here to stay. Being surrounded by the leagues best can overshadow a player’s ability, but with Giannis, that may never be the case.

Antetokounmpo produced 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists while playing 27 minutes for Team Stephen. Considering that Giannis was sharing minutes with the likes of a two-time MVP and the NBA’s best scorers, the numbers tell a bigger story in the end. It’s clear that Giannis cannot only showcase his talents against All-Star players, but while also being their teammates.

Bucks fans have known that for awhile now, but the takeaway around the league should be that Antetokounmpo is an MVP caliber type player and he will be for years to come.

Basketball Is More Fun With Giannis On The Court

Having a player who is not afraid to posterize his own teammate, as Antetokounmpo did to James Harden, makes for an All-Star game the league needs. It was clear to everyone that if Giannis was on the court, anything was possible.

That is what it is like every night the Bucks play. Fans sit at the edge of their seat knowing that when number 34 steps foot on the hardwood, they are in for something special. It can only be imagined the type of game that Antetokounmpo would have had if the basketball would have been in his hands more, but the what if’s are not what is important here. It is key to remember that on a night where the world tuned in to see LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry, it was Giannis who proved his game deserves to be seen.

Enough is enough when it comes to spectators questioning whether Antetokounmpo is the real deal or not. He is, there is no if, and, or buts about it. It is the reason Curry took Giannis with his first pick in the player’s draft, he is a walking highlight reel with the urgency to win at all costs, even an All-Star game.

Antetokounmpo’s work ethic is a rare breed here in the NBA and if Sunday night proved anything, it’s that the world should take advantage of the magic that is being showcased every game by Giannis. Time will tell what Antetokounmpo will accomplish in this league of talented players, but one thing that should be known is that if the Greek Freak is not starting in every All-Star game from here on out, what would be the point of tuning in.
