The Minnesota Timberwolves have reached out to the New York Knicks about a possible deal involving veteran guard Derrick Rose, Ian Begley of ESPN New York reports.
Should this go down, it would make for an interesting reunion between Rose and current Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau, who spent five seasons together from 2010-2015 in Chicago.
The Knicks have had a disappointing season (23-34) which has prompted Phil Jackson to strongly consider a change of scenery for several players. The Timberwolves (22-35) are in a similar situation but are only 3.5 games out of the eighth seed in the West. The loss of Zach Lavine to a torn ACL has given a significant increase in minutes for Ricky Rubio and Kris Dunn.
Although Rose hasn’t been very good on the defensive end this season, he’s still very effective in offense. Rose is averaging around 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assist per game this season.
