The Memphis Grizzlies will be without Tony Allen, also known as the grindfather, for quite some time as he is dealing with a calf strain. Multiple sources are saying that Allen could miss the opening round against the San Antonio Spurs, which is scheduled to tip tomorrow night in San Antonio.
Allen suffered the injury on Wednesday night in a 100-93 loss to the Dallas Mavericks where he was kicked in his calf.
“Hearing me play doctor right now, I don’t think it’s a big injury or anything like that,” coach David Fizdale said to reporters following Wednesday’s game. “Obviously, it scared the crap out of us when he got kicked. We’re going to assess it, see what happens and go from there.”
Allen is averaging 9 points per game, five rebounds and 1.6 steals. His defense will clearly be missed as the Grizzlies now have to find a new way to defend Spurs superstar Kawhi Leonard.
Game 1 is tomorrow night at 8 ET on ESPN.
