Trouble in LA, Jeanie Buss Thwarts Takeover Attempt

The LA Times have reported that Lakers’ President and Controlling owner Jeanie Buss has been threatened for her position. The attempt was made by her two brothers Kim and Johnny Buss. The attorneys for Jeanie Buss have sought a temporary restraining order from the Los Angeles County Superior Court Friday afternoon.

The move prevented the Buss brothers from having a meeting next week to vote on a new board of directors for the team. It is reported that they have proposed for the team to have four directors, but she would not be one of them. The only way to be a controlling owner is to be on the board of directors.

The attorney for Jeanie Buss had this to say about the brothers move.

“This is no doubt the beginning and not the end of the game-playing,”

“They don’t have a legal leg to stand on. This is a legal strategy doomed for failure.” – Adam Streisand via The Times

After the restraining order was submitted, the brothers withdrew their request. Jeanie had her attorneys withdraw the motion  shortly after that.

Two weeks ago, Jeanie made sweeping changes to the Lakers front office, which included removing her brother Jim from his role as vice president of basketball operations. In the court documents, Jeanies’ attorney called the move by the brothers as, “motivated as retaliation.”

There has been a probate trail court scheduled for May to resolve this matter.
