Warriors Targeting Rudy Gay if Iguodala Leaves

Andre Iguodala looks like he is leaving the Bay Area. He has scheduled meetings with the Kings, Lakers, Timberwolves, and Spurs, with the NBA champs nowhere to be found. The Warriors look like they have accepted Iguodala’s decision to leave by signing back-up PG Shaun Livingston to a 3-year/$24M contract. This is significant, because in order to retain both Livingston and Iguodala, both players would need to take significantly less on their respective deals. With the Warriors committing more money to Livingston and the amount of money Iguodala is being offered, the Warriors seem to be moving on from the 2-time NBA champion and 2015 Finals MVP.

Looking ahead, the Warriors are reportedly targeting free agent Rudy Gay in case Iguodala decides to leave. Gay, who averaged 19 PPG and 6 RPG last season, is a prolific scorer and a reasonably sound defender. Adding him to the roster would make the Warriors’ bench squad a much more lethal offensive group and Gay can be a force to be reckoned with in “The Death Lineup”. Losing Iguodala won’t be so bad if the consolation prize is Rudy Gay.
