In Green Bay, Wisconsin, we have had our fair share of drama over the years.
We had the Brett Favre moments of, “I’m retiring, I’m not retiring, I’m retiring, I’m playing for the Jets now.” Of course, there was the Aaron Rodgers soap opera that led him to the Jets as well. Dramatics for the Green Bay Packers have been pretty much exclusive to the QB position, but now it’s made its way to the receiving room.
Doubs in the dumps
Romeo Doubs did not suit up for the Packers in the week 5 win over the LA Rams, as he was suspended for 1 game due to detrimental conduct towards the team. Rumor has it that Doubs is unhappy with his role in the passing game.
This is wild. If it’s true, it’s hard to wrap your head around the concept. Jordan Love has played a total of 3 games this season and frankly, hasn’t played very well post injury.
Nevertheless, if we negate last Sunday’s game, through 4 games, Doubs is separated from a tie between Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks by a total of two targets(22). TWO! Let’s break out the microscope for a closer look.
In the 2 games Doubs, Reed, and Wicks have played with Love this season, Wicks leads in targets at 16, Doubs with 15, and Reed with 14.
I’m certain that there’s more to it than just numbers on a piece of paper, yet the NFL season comes and goes in the blink of an eye! We’re going into week 6, which means the season is almost over for sickos like me!
Jokes aside, we do have 12 games left. Perhaps it’s weighing on him that he hasn’t scored a touchdown? Is it because Wicks had 13 targets against the Vikings in week 4? Or maybe he went into the season foreseeing to snag that WR1 title? The Packers receiving corp is in good hands, but Doubs is a key piece in that room. Hopefully, he’ll find some humility and be back at practice to prepare for a hot Arizona team come Sunday.
