The 2025 NBA Trade Deadline week has arrived.
Teams have until Thursday, Feb. 6 at 3 p.m. ET to make a trade. The Golden State Warriors, currently 25-24 and 11th in the West, have been linked to numerous veteran players in the trade buzz. To help fill some roster holes, the Warriors can seek three potential trade candidates.
Warriors Realistic Trade Target: Nikola Vucevic
Golden State has had major spacing issues in its offense this season, and a large part of that is due to not having a legitimate stretch big. Nikola Vučević would fill this void, as he is currently knocking down 39% of his threes at a high volume (4.7 three-point attempts per game).
Acquiring Vučević could be more reasonable than the other high-profile trade targets on the market because of the Bulls’ asking price. Golden State has been very hesitant to give up future first-round draft capital because they want to stay competitive in the post-Steph Curry era. The Bulls should be enticed by Golden State’s expiring contracts and future second-round picks in a deal that finally allows them the financial freedom to embrace a full rebuild.
Warriors Semi-Realistic Target No. 2: Cameron Johnson
The Golden State Warriors did business with the Nets earlier this season, acquiring Dennis Schröder, but they also inquired about Cameron Johnson’s availability. The Nets, being in a full rebuild, have floated Johnson’s name on the trade block and are looking for future draft capital in exchange for their best player.
Jonathan Kuminga has also been a player that the Nets front office would demand in a deal for Golden State to acquire Johnson, but the Warriors remain reluctant to include Kuminga in trade talks.
Johnson is having a career year with the Nets, averaging 19.4 points per game on 49.1/41.9/89.8 splits. He would give the Warriors an immediate boost in the scoring and spacing department they desperately seek. This move could raise the floor of the Warriors’ season but doesn’t quite project to move Golden State into the contenders category in the loaded Western Conference.
Warriors Dream Target: Kevin Durant
After missing out on Zach LaVine, Golden State is reportedly after every All-Star player in the league, including Kevin Durant.
The Warriors have been known to be unafraid of going big-game hunting in the past, and reuniting with Durant — having won two championships and obtaining a 74% win percentage with him over his three seasons in Golden State — certainly fits the bill. Golden State is as desperate as ever to acquire a second star to pair up with Stephen Curry.
Despite being 36 years old and in year 17, Durant is still playing at a very elite level, averaging 26.9 points per game on 52.5/40.5/82.7 splits. The Phoenix Suns, sitting at 25-23 and 10th in the West, have little to no flexibility to make major moves to improve their roster this deadline because Bradley Beal is making $50,203,930 and has a no-trade clause, which he plans not to waive.
This increases the chances that the Suns will seriously consider offers for Kevin Durant, which they are currently doing.
A projected trade for Kevin Durant would have to include Andrew Wiggins and Jonathan Kuminga as the headliners and multiple future first-round picks. If Golden State is truly as desperate as they sound, they must be willing to sacrifice significant pieces of their future and go all in to compete in the West.
It sounds like the Golden State Warriors should be active this trade deadline. These three players have garnered the most buzz about potentially being dealt to the Warriors.
