The 2024 NFL season concluded over the weekend, and now is the time to take stock of how each team performed with the dust settled.
The final results for all teams featured a mixed bag in 2024. Some wildly missed their preseason mark, while others did more than overperform.
Looking at the whole league, the final results are pretty staggering.
Methodology
This piece includes the final records for the 32 teams and their preseason over/under win total betting lines. The over/under win totals used were from DraftKings Sportsbook, which unveiled its full list at the end of March, months before the start of the 2024 season.
Each team finds itself in one of five categories. Those include most notable overachievers, slight overachievers who met/are close to meeting their mark, slight underachievers and most notable underachievers.
The categories are made as follows:
- Most notable overachievers: at least four wins more than preseason expectations.
- Slight overachievers: at least two wins more than preseason expectations.
- Met/close to meeting their mark: got to win total or were within 1.5 games of it.
- Slight underachievers: at least two losses more than preseason expectations.
- Most notable underachievers: at least four losses more than preseason expectations.
The number in parentheses next to each team quantifies the over- and underachievement. For example, if Team A had a preseason over/under line of 8.5 and finished with 10 wins, +1.5 will be next to that team’s name.
Now, here are some fun facts after looking through the final list:
- Four teams (Minnesota, Denver, Detroit and Washington) won at least four more games than expected.
- Detroit (7.5 more wins) was easily the biggest overachiever compared to preseason predictions.
- Over a third of the league (11 teams) were within a game and a half of their win total.
- 12 out of 32 teams underperformed their win total.
- Both San Francisco and Cleveland (5.5 fewer wins) were tied as the biggest underachievers of 2024.
All teams listed below are ordered based on most significant overachievers to most significant underachievers.
