Jacob Misiorowski was named an MLB All-Star just a handful of starts into his career—the game’s best saw stardom.
Now, just a year later, the Miz is showcasing that he is already among baseball’s best. The Brewers’ right-handed flamethrower is captivating people across MLB, from players and reporters to fans. This time around, no one is arguing he shouldn’t be an All-Star.
Misiorowski was known for throwing hard when he arrived in Milwaukee. Now, he’s more than that. He’s a pitcher, and a dominant one at that.
Going from just high velocity to being absolutely dominant has come quickly for Misiorowski. More importantly, it has been paramount for the Brewers, who in recent years traded Freddy Peralta and Corbin Burnes. To have Miz step right in as the ace of the Brewers’ staff has been critical to their success.
Everyone saw his potential last year, particularly in the postseason. But it’s hard to imagine anyone foresaw this type of consistent Cy Young-level pitching.
Misiorowski’s Dominance on Display for Brewers
Misiorowski has sparkling stats. He’s 10-4 with an MLB-best 1.62 ERA. The 6-foot-7-inch hurler also leads the league with 167 strikeouts (in 111 innings), a 0.76 WHIP, 13.5-strikeouts per-9 innings and 4.6 hits per nine innings. He was named a National League All-Star last weekend.
While leading the league in those categories says a lot, it goes beyond statistics with Misiorowski. He’s doing more than striking batters out. He’s outmatching them. Not only is he striking out batters, but he also doesn’t surrender hard contact, allowing just seven homers and opponents slugging just over .200 against him.
Velocity is important. Misiorowski does it better than anyone in the game with a cruising speed in triple digits. He has tossed the 240 hardest pitches thrown in MLB this year by a starter. He’s tossed 57 of the 60 fastest pitches by a starter, all-time.
Miz Delivers an All-Time Start
If Miz hadn’t already arrived among the game’s greats, he emphatically announced it in a June 12 start vs. Philadelphia. He completely shut down a star-studded Phillies offense. He dismantled them in an all-time great start, blending dominance with efficiency.
Misiorowski threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout and struck out 15 batters in a 6-0 Brewers win. He did all this while throwing just 95 pitches and faced the minimum — 27 batters. He fired 58 of his 95 pitches 10o+ mph.
Media members wondered if they’ve seen anything like this – a guy who throws over 100 mph to strike out 15, while having the control to throw a complete game on 95 pitches. Some stats from his all-time start in an MLB.com piece by Anthony Castrovance:
- He threw 95 pitches, 74 of which were strikes and 25 of which resulted in swings and misses. The Phillies whiffed on 57% of their 40 swings against his four-seam fastball.
- He struck out 15 — the most ever in a “Maddux” (a complete-game shutout of fewer than 100 pitches).
- He did not have a three-ball count, and he only had five two-ball counts.
Miz Is Dazzling With Pitching Performances
The rise of Miz happened quickly. His filthy start against the Phillies was just his 28th regular-season start. Since the beginning of May, Misiorowski has simply been on another level.
In May, Miz was nearly unhittable. He allowed just 1 run (earned) over 38.1 innings in six starts for a 0.23 ERA. He went 5-0 and walked just six while striking out 57 batters with a .109 batting average against and 0.51 WHIP. Despite those dominant numbers, Misiorowski didn’t win Pitcher of the Month.
Maybe that motivated the 24-year-old to follow it up in June. Despite the stats saying he hasn’t been as good, Miz might actually be better in June.
Each start seems to be a moment for Miz. In his start against the division rival Cubs on June 26, he didn’t have his best stuff. But he adjusted, throwing more cutters. He broke his own record with a record 105.5 mph heater and picked up the victory. Against the Cardinals on Tuesday, he surrendered two homers, but picked up the win with 11 strikeouts in seven strong frames. He only allowed one other hit other than the homers and didn’t walk a batter.
Each Misiorowski outing is an appointment viewing. His first start in June, he shooed skipper Pat Murphy back to the dugout, wanting to finish the seventh inning despite a jam. With runners on first and third and one out in the seventh, it appeared Murphy was coming out to remove him. But Misiorowski mouthed from the mound not to come out. Misiorowski struck out the next two batters.
He threw an absurd 45 pitches at 101 mph or faster against the Rockies.
Miz Highlights the Brewers’ Development of Players
While Miz obviously deserves credit individually, the Brewers also deserve credit for his quick development.
The Brewers selected Misiorowski as the 63rd overall pick in the 2022 draft after he had played in just 15 games of junior college. In 2024, a year before debuting with the Brewers, Misiorowski had a career-high in walks per nine innings (5.5). There were questions about whether he’d be a starter or a reliever. But Miz has answered all of those questions.
Going from three-inning outings in the minors and struggling to find the strike zone to what he’s doing two years later is stunning. Last year with the Brewers, he had a 4.3 BB/9 IP, while this year it’s down to nearly half that, with 2.2 BB/9 IP.
After his start against the Reds on July 2- a subpar start by his standards – Miz acknowledged that better command is ‘100 percent’ the reason behind his 2026 performance. “The command’s jumped up milestones. I think it’s been a huge factor in success this year. So it’s been awesome.”
Jacob Misiorowski Is Already One of MLB’s Best
Many players were upset when Misiorowski earned an All-Star nod in 2025. The talent was there, but you have to show it typically to get that honor. Now, Miz has put the talent on display in his 2026 All-Star selection.
After a dynamic month of May, Misiorowski followed it up with a nearly equally stunning June. He has shown he’s more than a hard thrower. He allowed one run in May and had an ERA under 1 in June, too. He’s becoming the most feared starter in the game with how he seems to be able to mix an elite fastball with efficient dominance. BleacherReport’s top-25 players in MLB list in 2026, Misiorowski landed at No. 2 behind only Shohei Ohtani.
Misiorowski is not only the poster child for Brewers development, but he’s becoming one of the faces of baseball. His meteoric rise in a calendar year shows this might not be his ceiling. Which is more terrifying for opposing hitters than his blazing fastball.
