Could Isaiah Thomas Be Back Before 2018?

From the recent struggles of the Cleveland Cavaliers (lost 5 of last 6 games), it looks like they need the assistance of their All-Star guard, Isaiah Thomas now more than ever.

Luckily for Cleveland, Head coach Tyronn Lue has been very optimistic in Thomas’ return when asked if he believes IT will be out until January, “They’ve been doing a good job of taking it slow,” Lue said, “making sure they’re rehabilitating him the right way, and we just go from there.”

IT has been seen doing a couple of warmups before the game Friday against Washington, as well as putting in more work in practice as of late.

The Cavs are a complete mess right now, their opponents are averaging 120 points per game in their last 5 matchups. So, although Thomas will be a huge offensive boost for Cleveland, his return should be the least of their worries.

Their only win in the last 6 games was due to LeBron James’ franchise record night by scoring 57 points against the Wizards. A 32-year-old LeBron James shouldn’t have to put up 57 in order to give the Cavs a fighting chance to win against one of the best teams in the East. Other players have to step up, but the issue is beyond points for the Cavaliers.

If Cleveland wants to start winning games again, they’ll have to put up a real defensive effort, even in Tristan Thompson’s absence. With Thompson, as well as Thomas out for the Cavs, there’s still honestly no need to panic.

Losing 5 of their last 6 is in no means a good thing, but it’s better for them to have early season struggles than late season struggles near the All-Star break or come playoff time.

With nearly half of their roster being brand new guys, it’s still understandable that the Cavaliers would be struggling this early. Another reason why the Thunder (4-5) are also struggling … but shhhh LeBron’s not on that team, so don’t overreact to their bad start.

Thomas will be a great addition to the Cavs’ starting lineup, but before they make any effort to worry about his return, they need to worry about the return of their defense on the court & hold a team to at least under 110 points in a game. It may seem difficult now since they haven’t done that in 8 straight games, but they managed to do it in their 2-0 start this year against the Boston Celtics & the Milwaukee Bucks.
