Hawks End Tenure with GM Wes Wilcox

The Atlanta Hawks have parted ways with General Manager Wes Wilcox, the NBA announced Wednesday afternoon.

Wilcox joined the Hawks organization in 2012 as the Assistant General Manager before taking over for Danny Ferry as General Manager back in the summer of 2015. Atlanta reached the postseason in both seasons under Wilcox but was ousted by Washington in the first round this season and swept by Cleveland in the conference semifinals last season.

Wilcox became under fire this past winter when he jokingly stereotyped black women at a team event. “I know you guys may be angry with me, but I’m used to it because I have a black wife and three mixed kids, so I’m used to people being angry and argumentative,” Wilcox allegedly stated. At the time, the Hawks indicated that they had no plans to fire Wilcox because of this, but there is a good chance it played a part in his termination.
