Why the Jet Should Stay Grounded in Milwaukee

Jennings Return Has Several Calling For Terry To Go

News broke Tuesday that the Wisconsin Herd would be indeed signing former Bucks guard Brandon Jennings. As much as the nostalgia has set in for some, this move might be just what Jennings needs in order to make his NBA comeback. With that said though, in order for Jennings to move up to the Bucks roster, the team would have to clear one spot and many are throwing out veteran guard Jason Terry’s name for the one who should take flight out of Milwaukee. Taking a looker close at the situation at hand though, Jason Terry shouldn’t be going anywhere fast.

Entering his 19th season in the NBA, it can easily be believed that Terry’s presence on a team itself is more vital now more than ever. The leadership the Jet has brought to the Bucks can easily be seen day in and day out. The 3rd all time leader of three pointers made has shown that he isn’t only just as comfortable behind the arc during games, but has also become the Bucks’ biggest cheerleader. Having that type of energy among these Bucks who are eager to win, but still have a lot to learn is crucial in this league.

Fans Excitement to Jennings Signing Was Instantaneous

It is fair for the fans of Milwaukee to want Brandon Jennings to succeed. After spending four seasons with Milwaukee where he made the game of basketball fun for fans who were tired of watching the Bucks fail is something we all will forever be grateful for. That being said though, letting nostalgia cloud our judgement will not do this team any favors. Success in the NBA G-League does not guarantee that it will translate to the pros. Although Jennings has shown that he can compete with the league’s elite, being plagued with injuries has put question marks surrounding his ability.

It would not be all that shocking if Brandon Jennings came into Oshkosh and made a respectable impact on the game. The league knows he can play, it was seen for countless years, but at what cost would it take to bring him back onto the Bucks’ roster. It would be a risk in itself, but for plenty to be calling for Terry to hit the road is a move that does more harm than good. Many of these players still need guidance, not just from the coaching staff, but from their teammates and no one is better to fill that role than the seasoned veteran. Terry has proven on the court there is still some fuel left in the Jet, but what he does off the court for this Buck’s organization is more impressive than any shot he can make.
