The Boston Celtics took a tough blow to their deep playoff run hopes Wednesday morning, as Kyrie Irving has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and playoffs, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke via Twitter.
Boston sits pretty firmly in second, three games behind Toronto for the top seed out East. Irving has been out since March 11th, and the knee procedure will unfortunately require longer than the original 3-to-6 week recovery period.
Terry Rozier and Shane Larkin will have to hold down the fort at point guard for the rest of the season or until Marcus Smart returns to the lineup as well.
Irving averaged 24.4 points (49% FG, 41% 3Pt, 89% FT), 3.8 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.1 steals across 32.2 minutes per contest in his first season with the Celtics.
