The Detroit Lions may be in a better spot than they expected. Off-season talks emphasized the franchise’s losses, but now it is obvious where the Lions are thriving. They went from a laughing stock in Week 1 to a sight to behold in Week 3.
The Detroit Lions shone brighter than the lights of Monday Night Football. Nearly all major media outlets expected the Ravens to prevail, but the low expectations did not keep the Lions down. They came onto the field with a dominant performance and did not let off the gas all night.
The Lions unveiled a few weapons in Week 3 that will put them in the driver’s seat for the rest of the season.
Lions’ Offense Remains Powerful and Bold
The Lions’ offense had the ball for 33 minutes and 18 seconds, including a possession that lasted over 10 minutes. They put together two 95+ yard drives, 426 total yards, and 38 points. They were also successful on all three fourth-down conversions and displayed all-around control.
Their success, per usual, started with blocking. From the line of scrimmage to 50 yards down the field, the Lions knew how to block the defense to create plays.
The offensive line gave Jared Goff his bubble and opened the floodgates for David Montgomery. The wide receivers got in on the fun, too. Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams were blocking at the line of scrimmage and far down the field to help out each other and the run game.

The creativity for the Lions’ offense did not walk out the door with Ben Johnson. The Lions used a play they’ve been sitting on for a while to get Montgomery outside and in the endzone; it wasn’t the only time the Lions tried to change things up.

The Lions had St. Brown, the wide receiver, line up in the backfield multiple times. Gibbs ran several routes on a slight delay, allowing him to go unnoticed by the defense. The Lions appeared unstoppable after all their pieces fell together, and they added a little Dan Campbell flair.
Lions Defense Keeps Pace
It was hard to watch the game against the Ravens and not be impressed by the Detroit defensive line. They sacked Lamar seven times, but more impressively, they turned into a wall that only allowed 85 rushing yards and a single rushing touchdown.
The Lions’ four straight goal-line stops may have been overshadowed by the seven sacks. On plays from the one-yard line, the defense was quick to react and spot the ball. They had Lamar Jackson walking off the field looking defeated, and Derrick Henry throwing his helmet after the ball was stripped from his hands.

The Detroit Lions saw what went wrong in Green Bay and have worked tirelessly to put themselves back in the talk of Super Bowl contention.
The Lions play the Browns, Bengals, Chiefs, and Bucs in the following four weeks. This is the stretch that determines just how strong the Lions can be this season.
