Nets Send Lin to the Hawks

The Brooklyn Nets have traded guard Jeremy Lin to the Atlanta Hawks. The Nets will receive the rights to Isaia Cordinier, the Hawks’ 2016 second round pick, and Atlanta’s 2020 second round pick. The Hawks will have the rights to swap second round picks in 2023, and get the Nets’ 2025 second round pick, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski:

Lin’s contract, worth close to $13 million, is up this offseason. The Hawks taking on his contract allows the Nets to be around $12 million under the cap, giving them ample opportunity to take on more bad contracts from other teams, as they already have done with the Nuggets.

The Harvard grad, most remembered for his dazzling month of “Linsanity,” will join a for-now already crowded Hawks backcourt. Incumbent starting point guard Dennis Schroder has already voiced his displeasure with being part of a rebuild and the Hawks have been shopping him since the start of last season. Lin, who averaged 14.5 PPG in the 2016-2017 season, ruptured his patella tendon in the first game of this past season. If healthy, he will serve as a stop-gap for Trae Young, providing veteran leadership for the rookie before Young takes over the starting spot.

In his eight year career, Lin has averaged 12 points per game on 35 percent shooting from three.
