The Tre Mann Breakout is in Full Swing

After getting drafted 18th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft out of Florida by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Tre Mann is becoming the microwave scorer he was projected to be.

Now he’s in Charlotte after being involved in the Hornets’ trade that sent Gordon Hayward to OKC. Mann has the opportunity to shine.

Coming off the bench this season, Mann is averaging 20.5 points per game. He is shooting 42.9% from behind the arc on 7.0 attempts per game. Mann is showing the shooting potential that many believed he had as a rookie and out of Florida.

Currently leading all bench players in scoring, Mann is a premier candidate for winning the Sixth Man of the Year. Additionally, he will be in consideration for the Most Improved Player Award. The trade to Charlotte saved his career.

A Bad Situation

Mann was a man stranded in the crowd of talented guards on the Thunder last season. He had a sophomore slump in 2022-23, averaging only 7.7 points per game while shooting a poor 31.5% from three. He completely lost rotation minutes last season, factoring in the emergence of Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe and the draft selection of Cason Wallace.

Mann only appeared in 13 games for the Thunder last season. This caused him to average only 3.8 points per game in only 119 minutes. He had to be sent to the G League multiple times.

With the Thunder, Mann spent 10 games of his three years in OKC playing for their G League affiliate, the Blue. In those 10 games, Mann showed promise, averaging 20.6 points per game with a 63.9% true shooting clip.

New Beginnings

Since the trade, Mann has taken off, immediately tallying nine assists in his Hornets debut. He averaged 11.9 points and 5.2 assists in his first season in Charlotte. Additionally, he started in all 28 games he played in.

This season, Mann is the number one scoring option off the bench of this Hornets team. He is taking the NBA world by storm with his decision to rock longer shorts in games this year. The NBA-style enthusiasts are loving it.

This Allen Iverson-esque style is rubbing off on Mann’s game so far this season, with him being as shifty as ever. Ultimately, he is living up to his nickname, “Tricky Tre.”

In addition, he is coming off a flamethrowing effort against Toronto where he scored 27 points off the bench. Furthermore, he had a wonderful shooting display, hitting four threes in various ways.

Also, his performance on Oct. 30th is his Hornets’ single-game high.

Tre Mann is taking his game to the next level.
