Betting markets say yes.

The NBA is filled with exciting games and intense playoff drama. Teams often win by a single point or through a lights-out performance of one of their star players. However, consistency is what differentiates good players from future basketball legends.

The player who consistently outperforms the competition is crowned as the season’s Most Valuable Player, which is the most lucrative individual accolade a professional basketball player can achieve.

It is no secret that betting on who the NBA’s next MVP will be is one of the hottest betting markets in a basketball season.

Those who follow the NBA have plenty of options available to them, including no-limit bookmakers, various betting sites, and prediction markets like Kalshi or Polymarket.

Guessing the future MVP may sound tricky, but ultimately, most fans choose between 3-4 viable candidates based on their season performances.

Why Do Fans Pay Attention to the MVP Race?

When a player wins MVP, their fans essentially have confirmation that they were the best player of that season.

While passionate fans and analysts will still debate whether the MVP title was deserved, the fact remains unchanged, which further exacerbates the competitive nature of NBA fans/analysts and leads to lively discussions on social media and fan forums.

MVP winners can often change teams to earn lucrative contracts and a better chance of winning a championship.

This can create divided loyalties between local fans who support their hometown team versus the fans who pick their favorite player, regardless of which team they play for.

This topic has long been a source of division among NBA fans, and further points to the competitive spirit of correctly guessing the winner of the MVP title.

Take Nikola Jokic, for example. He’s been with the Denver Nuggets for his entire career. But if he were to leave? You can almost guarantee his fans would go with him instead of staying with the Nuggets.

What Does an MVP Season Look Like?

If you are trying to guess who the season’s MVP winner will be, there are several important signs to watch out for. Here are some clear signs of a player having MVP potential:

  • They play at least 65-70 games per season. Consistency is key for an MVP, which is why most MVP winners play at least 80% of their regular-season games.
  • They average at least 25 points per game. This is self-explanatory, as the MVP must be putting up impressive scoring numbers to even be considered.
  • They feature in dramatic, match-winning moments. MVPs find ways to change each game by hitting buzzer-beaters or getting the game-winning defensive stop. This enhances their brand and highlights their importance to the team.

In almost every case, the MVP winner has been a member of the top-three team for that season, which is to be expected, as high-performing teams score and win more.

Momentum Changes on the Betting Markets

The NBA season is highly dynamic, and the performance of potential MVPs can change considerably before the regular season ends. This means that the odds for MVP winners are highly volatile and constantly in flux.

When one of the contenders for the MVP title posts a triple-double or a massive scoring night, the markets shift considerably in their favor. On the other hand, if they sustain an injury and miss several games, the odds will favor their adversaries.

This creates many opportunities for bettors to take advantage of volatile odds and wager on their favorite when their form dips and longer odds become available.

To get the best possible odds on MVP betting positions, make sure to check odds aggregators to see what different bookies have to offer.

No-Limit MVP Betting Markets

MVP betting is only second to betting on the outright winner of the league, which means that many reputable sportsbooks offer no-limit betting on MVP winners.

Crypto betting sites are especially generous with their limits, as MVP winner positions are highly liquid and attract considerable attention from clients.

In a way, betting on the MVP winner has become an investment. High-rollers can put down five or six figures on a single position and wait it out for several months until the regular season ends.

Bettors typically choose between dozens of potential MVP candidates, which can often mean that even the favorites to win have longer odds than expected.
