The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in acquiring Sacramento Kings point guard George Hill, according to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania)
Hill came to Sacramento this offseason on a 3-year, $57 million contract. He was touted as one of the most high profile signings by the Kings in sometime, but he’s been mostly underwhelming with just 10.5 points and 2.7 assists per game.
Early in the month Hill expressed that his time with Sacramento was “not what he expected,” according to the Sacramento Bee. This coupled with the Kings recent emphasis on “youth development” would make it seem like Sacramento would have little qualms with trading the point guard.
The Cavaliers have just Derrick Rose and José Calderon as back up point guards, so there’s clearly a need. With Isaiah Thomas as the starter, Hill would instantly be the best defensive guard on the roster.
A trade of Hill for Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye, and Cleveland’s first round pick would make sense for both sides. The Kings could waive Frye, and Shumpert as a player option for next season that he’ll likely decline.
For now, these are all rumors. The NBA trade deadline is February 8th.
