Doc Rivers: “Ray (Allen) Is In Amazing Shape”

on

During an interview at the TD Garden, Doc Rivers made some interesting comments about his former player, Ray Allen.  Allen made it clear that he wanted to return to the NBA last month, but only if the situation is right for him.  Many have wondered if Allen could still contribute and play at a high level.

According to Doc, it’s not a question.  “I think if Ray was in the right spot he may play. I think Ray wants to golf a lot too right now,” Rivers said.  “But Ray is in amazing shape. I don’t know how he does that. I didn’t know how he does that as a player; I don’t know how he does it as a non-player. He’s probably in top-five shape in the NBA. So could Ray play? Absolutely, I believe he could.”

Those are some very strong comments about the 41 year old NBA veteran.  Allen hasn’t played in the NBA since the 2013-2014 NBA season, where he last played for the Miami Heat.  During that season Allen averaged 9.6 ppg.

We all know how obsessed Allen is about staying in top notch shape, but at 41 years old, could he possibly keep up with these young guys and be a factor?

If Allen lands the right situation where he could do what he does best, which is stroke the three ball, he most certainly can be beneficial to a team.

There has been interest from several teams about acquiring Ray Allen during this off-season.  Teams such as the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Boston Celtics have all showed interest in the 18 year veteran.  He would most likely sign a one year deal, for the Veteran’s Minimum.  Whoever Allen decides to sign with, if he decides to play, will be getting one of the greatest shooters to ever play the game.
